About Us
We are a small operation showcasing a boutique-sized variety of used records that we hope you like as much as we do. Our goal is to bring a little clarity to the overwhelming and messy databases of used vinyl in cyberspace for those that are not hardcore diggers.
For us, vinyl records are high art (the whole package, not just the music contained therein) that should be treated as such. Therefore, all used records are shipped with high quality outer and inner sleeves. We also like to showcase the records we sell by giving a history, description, and sound files on our website: http://www.fatheadphones.com.
Why are we called Fat Headphones when there are no headphones for sale?
The Fat Headphones name came into existence as a homage to those golden days (mainly 60s and 70s) when music enthusiasts had some meat to their listening systems. As collector Frank Gossner relates, “… you want your music to sound like it has some balls.” At the height of the hi-fi system reign in the late 70s the act of listening to music was a ritual that could only be appropriately executed with the right equipment. The oversized fat headphones of that era have come to symbolize when this ritual, and the quality of sound, meant something. And of course, the axis of which all this spun around was the vinyl record.
Hence, a vinyl shop call Fat Headphones, if that makes any sense at all!
